Hillary Clinton on Improving Schools

Hillary Clinton knows that the K-12 system must be improved in order to ensure that every child is prepared to compete in an increasingly global economy.

As president, Hillary Clinton will hire thousands additional exceptional teachers and principals, in particular for urban and rural areas. She will create environmentally friendly schools in order to reduce energy costs and eliminate hazards that can hinder children's learning and development.

Clinton will End the unfunded No Child Left Behind and ensure that children with special needs get the attention and support they deserve by meeting the financial support promises of IDEA.

She will double the after school program to ensure that young students have safe and inspiring places to go between 3 and 6 p.m. Clinton will also invest $100 million in a new public/private summer internship program.

Hillary Clinton will expand early-intervention mentoring programs. This is aimed at helping one million at-risk youth aspire for college and job success. She will also provide $1 billion to identify at-risk youth and help get them back on track.
